“Truth is not hidden. You are hiding from it.” — Nisargadatta Maharaj

Truth exists.
Saying truth doesn’t exist is like saying no truth is true, which is contradictory. This is simple logic.
And the truth is there can only be one truth. This is because, for something to be truly true, it can’t be part of something larger or the other side of a coin. It has to be true all the time under all conditions. Otherwise, it’s not true. Meaning, truth is ubiquitous.
Truth isn’t just everywhere; it’s everything.
That doesn’t mean truth is one thing now and another thing later. Truth can’t be relative. Truth must be unchanging. Whatever truth is must be constant and whole.
This also means there is no room for another truth. Two truths would amount to neither being true because where one truth is true, the other can’t be true.
Truth cannot be finite.
Sure, relatively speaking there are many truths. Millions of them. But the thing about relative truths is that they’re beliefs, not truths.
We might, for example, say that it’s true that lemons are yellow. But is that really true?
What about green lemons? Or orange ones? What about a colorblind person?
We might say the law of gravity is always working and therefore true (disregarding that we have no clue what gravity is). But is that really true?
What about dreams? Floating and flying are not uncommon in dreams.
I’m not dismissing the relative world by saying this; I’m preparing the field for a very simple fact.
The fact of existence. The truth of experience. Your true nature.
I think we can all agree that truth must always be true no matter what. Truth must be true whether we’re human beings or 5-dimensional blobs or plants or Gods or whatever else we can imagine.
Whatever is true about our experience must be staring us in the face wherever we look. It must be the most obvious thing there is because it’s all-pervasive.
Whatever truth is, must be found in all things — nothing existing can exist outside of truth; nothing can exist independently of truth.
Now what is it?
Yes, I’m asking you now.
When I say that there is only one truth it might sound like I’m dismissing other opinions and that I have special knowledge you don’t and some such. I’m not saying that.
What I’m saying is that you are as familiar with truth as I am. And I’m saying that truth is beyond dispute. Because truth is ever-present, questioning or dismissing it can only happen by means of it.
Denying truth is only affirming it.
What else can we say about truth?
We can say it’s absolute, universal, unlimited, without boundaries. What would be outside its boundaries? More truth?
Truth is infinite.
Or to put it differently, truth exists and untruth doesn’t.
So let me ask again, what is it?
Now would be a good moment to employ words such as “consciousness,” “being,” “existence,” “presence,” or for the religious folks, “God,” etc. I invite you to refrain from these labels for a moment. These labels are only concepts and are to truth what the word “lemon” is to the actual lemon.
The truth is this (I’m sweeping my arm in a slow, deliberate arc, revealing that which didn’t need revealing.)
Right here, right now you know that you are. You are not the one you think you are — that one’s hocus-pocus — and yet, you are.
This self-evident non-conceptual existence exists and is therefore synonymous with truth.
What you are is what the truth is.
P.S. The artwork is by artist Oli Goldsmith. He explores these perennial themes through his art and it’s damn cool. So yeah, check it out: oligoldsmith.com
